There’s a growing call for mall giants SM and Ayala to offer parking spaces for bikes to encourage more people to take greener modes of transport.
A global study revealed that setting up bike parking and garages right beside train stations have a huge role in promoting the culture of commuting. Many SM and Ayala malls are located near MRT-3 and LRT-1 stations.
“If Trinoma and SM north just did this in 08/09, would have been a game changer for Manila mobility,” Twitter user @dakilakim said.

Some netizens have praised SM for recognizing bike culture, but not fast enough.
SM South Mall. Cramped bike racks, but plentiful and secure. They have free racks in every parking lot, including this covered lot. pic.twitter.com/LYhnPUz1Uy

SM San Lazaro has a dedicated space for bike parking. It’s also free. They only require you to leave your ID for security purposes. pic.twitter.com/yVB9r092b2

@AyalaMalls greenbelt 1 steel parking discriminates vs bike parking, Mcdo gb1 with the save for providing an area for bikes for now. SM Malls have better bicycle accommodations

Overall, I prefer Trinoma and Ayala Malls in general over SM Malls, pero as a cyclist, I'm beginning to like SM more. Their bike parking areas (at least those in major malls like Megamall and MOA) are much better. Sa Trinoma, masikip, walang silong, at medyo mahirap puntahan. pic.twitter.com/GFGyTf5rr1
