Steady growth: Smart nears 13-M mark in SIM registration

Smart Communications is a few thousand subscribers away from hitting the 13-million mark for registered SIM cards in the first month of the registration period.

The network led by bilyonaryo Manny Pangilinan reported 12,998,301 million SIMs registered as of January 25, or exactly one month since the three-month window for SIM registrations started.

Of the total number, 12.06 million are prepaid users and 942,883 postpaid subscribers.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology said it is pleased with the pace of SIM registrations at 20 million a month, against a total of about 150 million active SIM cards in the country.
