Cousins Carl Corpus and Aidric Chan dominated the National Stroke Play Championship as they finished 1-2 in the men’s division at the close of the tournament, which formed part of NGAP and PLDT Group – National Amateur Golf Tour, held at the Riviera Golf Club in Silang Cavite.
Corpus, a San Jose University standout, ended the final round Friday with a one-over-par 72 for an aggregate of 287 after four days of grind at the challenging par-71 Langer layout that was made tougher with the strong rains, gutty winds and difficult pin placements.
Chan, on one hand, produced a level par 71 to capture the runner up honors. Filipino American Jaden Dumdumaya, who was slightly ahead of Chan before the last round, settled for third place with 304 after a 76 followed by Filipino Briton Enrique Dimayuga (74-301)and Luigi Paolo Wong (76-304).
Junia Gabasa of Cebu romped away the ladies crown. She scored the day’s best of a five-under-par 67 for 283. Fellow Cebuana Lois Kaye Go also went under par with a 68 for 291. Mafy Singson likewise had a 68 for 297. Samantha Dizon (78-304) ranked fourth.
