Manila International Airport Authority chief Cesar Chiong was caught on camera chuckling heartily during a televised media briefing regarding the January 1 airport mess that left over 50,000 travelers stranded due to a glitch in the air traffic control system.
Chiong, a long-time Philippine Airlines executive before joining government, appeared to be in a jolly mood during a press conference on the aviation mess with Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.
At the 0:35 portion of this video clip, Chiong could be seen whispering to a colleague to his left while Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines general Manuel Tamayo was busy answering questions from reporters. He kept on chuckling as if the inconvenience suffered by the passengers was a small thing.
Chiong’s behavior certainly leaves a bad taste in the mouth, especially since NAIA has long been considered as one of the worst airports in the world even before the glitch in the air traffic control system happened.
