The Department of Transportation on Wednesday is seeking to privatize the operations and maintenance of the EDSA Busway by the first half of next year.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said they plan to entertain proposals by the first quarter of next year and award the O&M contract to the winning bidder within the second quarter.
Bautista said the DOTR would continue to improve the services and infrastructure of the EDSA Busway, a joint undertaking of the Department of Transportation, Metro Manila Development Authority and Department of Public Works and Highways. to meet the increase in volume of passengers.
“The EDSA Busway must conform to international standards. There’s a lot to do here,” Bautista said during the opening of the Tramo Station of the EDSA Busway.
It has 17 median stations, four temporary curbside stations, and an Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).
As of December 2022, the EDSA Busway project has been catering to an average of 389,579 passengers daily.
