The recent batch of national IDs released to applicants after long months of waiting has failed to impress since most were printed on regular paper which requires citizens to cut out the ID and laminate them.
As a result, the national ID became a trending topic on Philippine twitter as netizens shared their experiences with their deliveries.
Some took issue that it was in black and white
Imagine waiting for your National ID for more than a year…
only for it to arrive like this.
Mas maganda pa yung Philhealth card at BIR TIN ID ko eh. At least yun colored kahit papel lang. Ugh. pic.twitter.com/HDgeq4H29a

While some received their actual national IDs and not bond paper printouts, one particular netizen was shocked by its poor quality so much so that when he allegedly tried to remove a sticker from it, his face came off from his photo.
So tingnan nyo tong NAPAKAHUSAY na National ID. So the check-in staff at Cebu Pacific stuck my baggage claim stub sticker on my ID because I didn't have a printed boarding pass. Pagtanggal ko ng sticker to put it elsewhere, NABURA LANG NAMAN YUNG MUKHA KO SA ID. WTF? #nationalID pic.twitter.com/UsiJ77H7vY

The national ID was also connected to another trending topic for the SIM Card Registration because apparently, it was one of the possible government identifications that can be used for registration.
I AGREE.
Having a national ID would have SIMPLIFIED and STREAMLINED the SIM registration process which, much to the dismay of many early registrants, leaves much to be desired.
That said, I still haven't received my actual national ID. I applied for it last February 2022. https://t.co/W4mKzK6bBX

Which of course, prompted a meme such as this
