A family who booked a GrabCar over the holidays claimed to have been traumatized after thick smoke came out of the vehicle they rode.
In a series of tweets, netizen @BatmanOdulio said thick smoke came out of the car’s interior while they were inside. Before this, he said the driver already told them that something appeared wrong with the vehicle.
The netizen said the driver already felt that the car was burning diesel fast, but remained available for ride bookings.
THIS IS TRAUMATIZING! We booked @grabph car. The driver mentioned na “Anlakas humigop ng gas ko” which is alarming, yet nagpatuloy. After 10 minutes in EDSA, umusok ang sasakyan. ZERO VISIBILITY. We cannot run away kasi baka masagasaan. pic.twitter.com/UssVxxzdcc

Fumes then engulfed the entire sedan and even left a portion of EDSA with minimal visibility, the customer claimed.
“Hindi kami makatawid dahil baka masagasaan kami kasi zero visibility. Nakakatakot, nakakakaba,” the netizen wrote. “Masakit. Hindi agad nakaalis ng sasakyan ang mama ko. Nadapa ang mama ko sa gutter at nagtamo ng sugat.”
Grab Philippines responded hours later with a promise to assist the family in private.
“Rest assured, we are currently investigating this matter internally as the safety of our passengers is our utmost priority. They will reach out to you directly for necessary updates,” the official Grab Twitter account stated.
