The Department of Energy (DOE) cautioned the public against believing the marketing hype regarding supposed energy-saving devices (ESD) for home use.
The regulator responded to rising sales of certain socket plugs that supposedly cut down power consumption and lower utility bills, saying these do not always work as advertised.
“We would like to inform everyone that these activities tend to deceive our energy consumers and promote their personal interests,” the DOE said in an advisory on Tuesday (December 20).
“To verify their claim for efficiency, consumers should ask these sellers for a test result coming from the DOE regarding their ESD products,” it added.
