With Shinichi Suzuki and Elee Bisera struggling to get going in the men’s side, young lass Rianne Malixi is slowly crawling into contention in the women’s category as she pulled within two off leader Hyo Song Lee of Korea at the midpoint of the 118th Malaysian Amateur Open in Johor, Bahru.
Malixi scored a four-under-par 68 at the Palm Resort Golf and Country Club that gave the 15-year-old Pinay a two-day haul of 141. Lee, the reigning Korean Amateur Open titlist, stayed in control with 138 after a 69 in this Wolrd Aamateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) Malaysian tournament.
“I hit more fairways today and made a lot of birdie opportunities,” said the ICTSI-backed Malixi.
Cebuana Lois Kaye Go fired an even-par 72 for 145 and joint third with Singapore-based Filipina Aloya Atienza. Mafy Singson had another 77 for 154.
Suzuki, meanwhile, slid to a share of ninth at 148 after a one-over-par 73 while Bisera improved with a 74 for 151 in the men’s division.
