From power to trade and industry, bilyonaryo Sabin Aboitiz is flexing his muscles in the administration of his BFF, President Bongbong Marcos.
A Babbler said Sabin, the presidential advisor on the private sector, is on the verge of bagging another key post for the Aboitiz group in the Marcos administration.
Babbler said Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV) director Joanne De Asis is rumored to be the leading contender should there be a vacancy in the Department of Trade and Industry.
Observers are betting DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual could be the next Cabinet member to go due to his underwhelming performance in his first few months in office.
The former Management Association of the Philippines president is also having a difficult time getting the nod of the Commission on Appointments.
De Asis is a senior adviser for Morgan Stanley & Co. and the founder and chairman of New York-based boutique investment bank Globe Capital Partners LLC.
The Aboitiz group currently has three former executives appointed in vital positions in the energy sector:
* Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla, former director of AEV and its subsidiary, Aboitiz Power;
*Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Monalisa Carneo Dimalanta, former AP chief legal counsel; and
* Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM) president and CEO Dennis de la Serna, AP first vice president for regulatory affairs.
