Ultra bilyonaryo Enrique Razon is setting sights on the Iloilo Port Complex after shelving an earlier plan to develop and operate the area.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the provincial government is excited over the plans of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) to take over the Iloilo Commercial Port Complex.
ICTSI Executive Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer Christian Razon Gonzales, Razon’s nephew, told BusinessWorld that they want to push the project again. He said the firm is awaiting the cue of the Philippine Ports Authority if the government project will be up for bidding, or if ICTSI should submit an unsolicited proposal.
“We welcome the plans of ICTSI to develop Iloilo Port and we will do everything to support it. As chair of the IDC (Iloilo Development Cluster), I fully support the project and will ensure that the RDC approves the same right away,” Treñas said in a statement, noting that port development would allow faster shipments and will boost the local economy.
