The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is removing the inspection of bags at the entrance of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 for seamless entry of passengers.
Starting November 1, travelers are allowed to go inside the terminal without putting their luggage through an X-ray machine at the gate. They, however, still need to present their travel documents to the security guard on duty.
The inspection of luggage at the terminal entrance previously resulted in long lines even before passengers reached the check-in counters of airlines, where they’re subjected to another thorough screening.
All bags and personal belongings will still be checked inside prior to boarding and after going through Immigration.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said the change was made to to comply with regulations of United States transportation authorities.
“If the TSA (Transport Security Administration) will be happy with the result of the test, we can reduce it to two,” Bautista told reporters.
