Level up! BPI’s cash deposit machines now accepting P1,000 polymer bills

Cash deposit machines owned by the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) have been retrofitted to accept the P1,000 polymer bills on trial circulation.

The bank owned by the bilyonaryo Zobel de Ayala clan made the announcement just weeks away from the holiday season, making it convenient for depositors who would like to transact outside business hours or during holidays.

The polymer notes come in a different size and glossy texture, making it distinct from abaca fiber-based bills.

The central bank has said it is studying the practicality of replacing paper bills with plastic-based banknotes because of the latter’s durability.
