The Department of Transportation (DOTr) should allow the private sector to operate a bus rapid transit (BRT) system along EDSA to make commuting more convenient, a naturalized business leader said.
In his November 21 column for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Wallace Business Forum founder Peter Wallace suggested that Management Association of the Philippines infrastructure panel chief Eddie Yap be tapped to help implement the BRT.
Yap convened the Green EDSA Movement with former Public Works secretaries.
“The government does not have the capability, or the money. My preference would be for one concessionaire for the entire system. Let that winning bidder build the needed infrastructure, stations and access facilities, control center, and supply of the buses,” Wallace wrote.
“Then, operate and maintain it under the watchful eye of the Department of Transportation, which must provide all the needed policy and regulatory support.”
Wallace said the government owes it to commuters to make their time on the road a pleasant experience.
“At least for those who need it most, the 350,000 daily commuters who waste two to three hours of their day standing in the heat and rain with a patience I’ll never understand,” the business leader said.
