The completion of the 3.9 kilometer Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) has been deferred to the first quarter of next year due to right-of-way problems, according to MPCALA Holdings.
“The target date of opening of the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange has been moved several times, with the latest target completion, being December of 2022 again uncertain,” Raul Ignacio, president of MHI said.
The project, which is 64 percent complete, is the fifth of the eight segments of the 45-kilometer CALAX which is seen to service 40,000 motorists. It is a 2×2 lane expressway from Silang East Interchange to Aguinaldo Highway in Cavite.
“We are still hoping to complete the road in time for the Christmas rush to Tagaytay. It will ease traffic congestion in the 41-km Aguinaldo Highway—the busiest main thoroughfare in Cavite,” Ignacio said.
Christopher Lizo, chief finance officer of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., said the entire Calax project should have been completed in July 2020. Nevertheless, he expects to complete the project by December next year.
“We are technically 2.5 years delayed. For right of way, 5 years delayed,”
Lizo said.
