Presidential Adviser on Creative Communications Paul Soriano is reportedly the main backer of the son of former Transportation Secretary Art Tugade.
A Babbler reported that Soriano, the son of a first cousin of First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, lobbied for the appointment of Jose Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade – first as acting general manager of Manila International Airport Authority and later as chief of the Land Transportation Office.
Soriano is apparently so powerful in Malacanang’s inner circle, he managed to have Jay Art’s appointment papers signed under the nose of the incumbent Transportation Secretary Jimmy Bautista.
The Office of the Press Secretary even confirmed the appointment of Jay Art on October 26.
Malacanang, however, dropped the appointment of Jay Art and reinstated the previous MIAA acting GM Cesar Chiong, after Bautista reportedly threatened to resign for this unwelcome encroachment of his territory.
Bautista reportedly convinced Chiong, who used to head ultra bilyonaryo Lucio Tan’s budget airline Airphil to leave his cushy corporate job and join the Marcos administration.
The Babbler said Bautista would rather quit the Cabinet rather than leave Chiong hanging if Soriano insists on Jay Art’s appointment.
Babbler said this prompted Soriano to look for an alternative post for Jay Art.
Last week, Bautista was seen shaking hands with Jay Art who was named as the new LTO chief.
So why did Teofilo Guadiz III lose his job after only four months as LTO boss? That is the topic of our coming “Burst Your Babble” report.
