Bruce gains in LPGA Tour Stage II Q School

Halfway into Stage II of the LPGA Tour and Epson Tour Qualifying, amateur Samantha Bruce is the best-placed Filipina from the five competing at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.

The Seattle U graduate, who was named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Month in October, shot a one-under 71 Friday (Saturday Manila) and was at joint 38th spot with 145.

Bruce opened with a 74 at the Panther course. He was on fire at the Bobcat layout, firing three birdies in the first nine holes but dropped three shots at the back but lost steam with three bogeys coming home. A birdie on the par-3 15th brought her back to 1-under.

The other Filipinas in the field are Chanelle Avaricio, Pauline del Rosario and Abby Arevalo were 8-over 152 after a 74, 76 and 78, respectively; while Daniella Uy was 12-over following a 79 to a one-under-par 71 halfway through the second stage of the LPGA Tour and Epson Tour Qualifying Tournament.

The other Filipinas were far behind. Chanelle Avaricio, Pauline del Rosario and Abby Arevalo were 8-over 152 after a 74, 76 and 78, respectively; while Daniella Uy was 12-over following a 79.

Decena top Camp Aguinaldo year-end tournament

Lieutenant Colonel Mark Ruby and Captain Joseph Decena, both from the Philippine Army, won the low gross and low net championship titles, respectively, in the year-end tournament of the Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club in Quezon City.
