Jay Art Tugade, the son of former Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, has been appointed as head of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) just three weeks after he was chosen to lead the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) confirmed Tugade’s appointment Monday, complete with a photo of him with Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.
The younger Tugade’s appointment as MIAA chief raised many eyebrows when it was announced on October 26, as MIAA GM Cesar Chiong was reportedly clueless that he had been replaced.
Chiong was Bautista’s personal choice to run the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the country’s biggest and busiest gateway.
Following the announcement of Tugade’s appointment to LTO, DOTr said Chiong “remained head of MIAA” and “did not leave” his post.
