Art aficionados, rejoice! Leon Gallery will be auctioning off a monumental piece by acclaimed contemporary artist Ronald Ventura during its year-end auction, The Kingly Treasures, on December 3 at 2 pm.
The piece, named Blind Mechanism is the biggest masterpiece to come from Ventura and marks a milestone in the artist’s career when he received the Philippines’ Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines 20 years ago.
“In this massive work, Ventura invites the viewer to focus on the imposing figure of a horse, which serves as the central subject. The artist depicts the animal as mounted on rockers, evoking that popular and classic children’s toy—the rocking horse—which a child can ride while playfully moving backward and forward. Ventura imbibes a disturbing atmosphere by depicting the horse as crying tears of blood, explicitly expounding on the subject of animal exploitation,” Alice Guillermo, in one of her striking essays, wrote about Ventura’s work.
She further praised the artist in her book “Realities: Ronald Ventura.”
“Ventura carries his thematics further by taking a stand against speciesism, which is the belief that the human race is superior to other species and that exploitation of animals for the advantage of humans is justified,” she said.
If you’re curious to see the artwork, preview week will be held from November 26 to December 2, 2022, 9 am to 7 pm.
Co-presented by ANCX, the urban man’s guide to style and culture, The Kingly Treasures Auction is happening on December 3, 2 PM, at León Gallery, Eurovilla 1, Rufino corner Legazpi Streets, Legazpi Village, Makati City.
