Avaricio leads after round 1 at Pradera

By Adrian Flores

Chanelle Avaricio made a big statement with an opening round of five-under 67 to grab a three-shot lead in the ICTSI Pradera Championship.

Avaricio, in fact, almost had a bogey-free day, capitalising on a wonderful short game to finish with six birdies with only one bogey at the Pradera Verde Golf Club in Lubao, Pampanga.

She was three ahead of amateur Mafy Singson and four from Harmie Constantino and Sunshine Baraquiel.

Singson, mentored by former national coach Bong Lopez, played even par in the first nine holes but turned the heat up after with three birdies and a bogey to end up with a two-under 70.

Chihiro Ikeda, Marvi Monsalve, Florence Bisera, Gretchen Villacencio and Korean Kim Seoyun are tied at fifth with 71s.
