Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla forecasts a steady increase in the rollout of electric vehicles (EVs) and EV charging stations with the issuance of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act or EVIDA last month.
Speaking before the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), Lotilla urged the EV Industry stakeholders to accelerate the development, commercialization, and utilization of EVs as an alternative fuel for the transport sector.
He said there are around 9,000 registered EVs and 300 charging stations already deployed nationwide.
To further guide the EV Industry on the objective of the EVIDA, the DOE, in cooperation with partner agencies such as the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Department of Science and Technology (DOST), will issue the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI) by the first quarter of 2023.
Lotilla said this would provide an annual work plan to accelerate the development, commercialization, and utilization of EVs in the country.
