Manila Water Co. is looking to bulk up its portfolio of wastewater treatment facilities in line with its commitment to the Philippine Clean Water Act.
The East Zone concessionaire said it would build 12 additional sewage treatment plants, to bring its current 41 wastewater facilities to 53 with 1,156 million liters per day treatment capacity to cover 100 percent of its concession area.
By operating more wastewater treatment plants, Manila Water said the company would ensure that domestic wastewater from households does not contribute to the pollution of rivers and other water bodies, thus supporting the Philippine Clean Water Act.
Manila Water wastewater operations head Donna Perez assured that the company is not only committed to provide 24/7 clean and potable water to its customers, but is also focused on protecting the environment.
This, she said, is done by making sure that it properly disposes and treats wastewater and its by-products, as these are essential elements of the company’s services.
For the next five years, Manila Water is looking to spend P181 billion, of which P105 billion will go to water and wastewater projects, and P76 billion for operating expenditures.
“This expenditure plan is anchored on the four pillars of sustainability notably water security, service accessibility, service continuity and environmental sustainability,” Manila Water said.
“This is in accordance with the company’s service improvement plan for the next five years submitted to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO),” it added.
