Toni Gonzaga effect? Shopee sellers’ sales slump during 10.10

Online sellers on Shopee are seeing a decline in sales– and some think the platforms’ latest endorser, Toni Gonzaga, is to blame.

Many pointed out that the slump started in September and extended until October, even during the 10.10 shopping bonanza.

Facebook user Myrna Buenconsejo said the Shopee boycott due to Gonzaga’s hiring, which came in the middle of employee layoffs in the e-commerce platform, is felt hard by sellers and delivery riders.

“Kalokohan mo Toni. Dito sa lugar nmin nung hindi pa ikaw endorser pagkadami-dami riders ng Shoppe kasi dami nag oorder sa kanila pero ngayon ikaw na ang Endorser, ni isa walang nadaan sa amin riders ng Shopee,” she wrote. 0Kung meron man isa ang sabi napaka tumal ng orders sa shoppe kz puro boycott ang rason. Kaya kalokohan ang sabihin mo successful kang Endorser. Kami lng denelette na namin ang Shoppe App.”

Other sellers said they’ve had to resort to TikTok marketing to rake in some sales during this slump, which also came at a time of high prices of basic goods and services.

Gonzaga has shrugged off the criticism over her endorsement deal, saying she’s grateful for the attention she’s getting.
