Malixi, Suzuki early contenders in Thai Amateur Open

Rianne Malixi carded a 69 while Shinichi Suzuki fired a 70 to jumpstart the Philippines’ campaign in the 88th Singha Thailand Amateur Open in Thailand.

Playing at the Panya Indra Golf Club in Bangkok, Malixi made two birdies in the last four holes to share third, four strokes from the leader, local bet Nattha Kritta in the Girls Division.

Malixi double bogeyed the 16th but shot her way back with a couple of birdies on Nos. 17 and 18. At the finale nine, he birdied the third and bogeyed the fifth.

Suzuki is not too far behind, just two shots behind Nippit K of Thailand.

“Overall, shooting an even-par is a very good score for this type of course,” he said.

The other Filipinos in the field are: (Boys) Gab Manotoc 73, Kristoffer Arevalo 77, Edison Tabalin 78, Jet Hernandez 79 and Leandro Bagtas 81; and (Girls) LK Go 77, Mafy Singson 77, Burberry Zhang 80, Laurea Duque 82 and Abigail Abarcas 82.
