Promise fulfilled—sort of: Foodpanda offers rice for P20/kg on Marcos’ 100th day as President

Foodpanda is making an offer many consumers might find hard to resist: P20 for a kilo of rice.

From October 7 to 10, Foodpanda app users can buy a two-kilogram bag of sinandomeng rice for P20 a kilo.

Currently, rice prices are at P50-60 a kilogram, with a portion of rice supply sourced from imports.

The launch of FoodPanda’s offer coincides with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s 100th day in office. The Chief Executive promised to bring down the cost of rice to P20 per kilo during the campaign season.

Some netizens joked that Foodpanda fulfilled what so far has been a pipe dream.

“Go FoodPanda! Fulfilling unmet promises,” one Facebook user said.

Kakampinks saw Foodpanda’s marketing ploy as a political move favoring former Vice President Leni Robredo, which coincided with the anniversary of her declaration of her presidential bid a year ago.
