A House leader is seeking a probe into how 433 bettors won the P236-million jackpot in the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office’s 6/55 Grand Lotto draw.
Minority Leader and 4Ps Partylist Rep. Marcelino “Nonoy” Libanan filed a measure ordering the House Committee on Games and Amusements to mount a probe on the controversial lotto draw, where winners won by selecting six numbers which are multiples of nine.
He said the “extremely rare outcome” needs to be verified by experts “to protect and ensure the integrity” of lotto draws.
“We also have to safeguard the hopes and dreams of millions of Filipinos that patronize the lotto draws every day,” Libanan added, adding that allegations of fraud must be addressed by authorities.
Statisticians have pointed out that while the probability of choosing the said combination and sharing it with hundreds of other winners are slim, it is not impossible.
Each winner won P545,000 in the lotto draw, while one was over a million pesos richer for having two winning tickets.
