Dutchman Van der Valk takes driver seat in Riviera Championship

By Adrian Flores

Pre-tournament favorite Guido Van der Valk of the Netherlands vaulted into solo leadership with a second round three-under 68 in the ICTSI Riviera Championship held at the Riviera Golf Club in Silang, Cavite.

The Philippine-based Van der Valk actually produced the day’s just one of two subpar rounds and his 36-hole total of 142 at the tough Langer course but that was enough to overtake Fidel Concepcion in this P2-million event sponsored by the Invitational Container Terminal Services Inc.

It was a complete reversal for Concepcion. He opened with a 69 on Tuesday but he was obviously bothered by the strong winds and could not really take off and that translated into a double bogey, four bogeys and only three birdies for a 74 and 143.

Amateur Josh Jorge, who earlier in the day scored a hole in one at the fourth hole, khad a two-under 69 to jump to third alongside Marvin Dumandan (71) with 144.

Five players with 145 are bunched at fifth including Juvic Pagunsan, Tony Lascuña, Anthony Fernando and Rico Depilo.

Arnold Villacencio (72),Ira Alido (74), Jun Bernis (73), Zanie Boy Gialon (73) and Rupert Zaragosa (73) occupy ninth with 147.
