Amateurs slightly ahead of the lady pros at Riviera Championship

Mafy Singson posted a decent one-over-par 72 at the challenging Langer layout for a slim lead after the first round of the women’s competition at the ICTSI Riviera Championship in Cavite.

Singson was doing okay until a bogey on No. 17 to close out the day with that 72, just enough to take pole position heading to the second round as fellow amateur Rianne Malixi limped with back to back bogeys On Nos. 17 and 18 for a two-over 73 at the Riviera Golf Club.

“Langer is a tough course so I just try to play steady, hit the fairways and greens,” said Singson, gunning for a second pro crown after winning the Splendido Taal leg last May. “I had a few clumsy bogeys but then again you can’t really avoid them (bogeys) in this kind of course.”

Apple Fudolin and Chihiro Ikeda are tied for third with 74 each.
