West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. of Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp., has been fined P9.26 million by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for prolonged water service interruptions.
Maynilad said it received on Wednesday a notice of imposition of penalty from the MWSS.
The P9.26 million fine will be implemented in the form of bill rebates to affected customers by November.
Maynilad is being penalized after the MWSS found the company breaching its service obligation of ensuring the availability of an uninterrupted 24 hour supply of water at seven pounds per square inch minimum pressure for more than 15 days to connected customers in parts of Las Piñas City, Muntinlupa City, Parañaque City, and Cavite Province.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, MPIC said Maynilad has started implementing mitigating measures to address the situation.
MWSS fined Maynilad almost P64 million last February because of its poor service from December 2021 to February this year.
