Lazada Philippines became netizens’ online shopping app of choice overnight thanks to its rival, Shopee.
The Alibaba Group-controlled shopping platform dominated the list of top trending topics across Twitter Philippines as thousands of Shopee users threatened to boycott the app over its choice of Toni Gonzaga as brand ambassador.
Gonzaga, formerly a host of reality show Pinoy Big Brother, is a vocal supporter of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Calls to boycott Shopee worked in Lazada’s favor, with netizens saying they’ll likely shop during the October 10 or “10.10” promo on the Alibaba-owned platform.
Some netizens gave suggestions on what Lazada could do better.

Others found more reasons to like Lazada.
“LazadaPH having the most influential actors such as Kathryn, Bea, Maine and Alden but didn’t have mass layoff then ShopeePH have downsizing just for one enabler artist? Buti talaga nagswitch na ko sa Lazada the moment Kathryn Bernardo became their ambassador,” one said.
