Grass is greener: Golf tourism is the next big thing

By Adrian Flores

Golf Tourism will be one of the main focus areas of the 33rd Philippine Travel Mart scheduled from September 30 to October 2 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay.

Several golf clubs have committed to the expo to showcase their courses and facilities while hoping to touch base with the more than 200 exhibitors that will offer hotel accommodations as well as flight packages.

The golf tourism initiative actually began two years ago and had in fact passed the first two readings in the House of Representatives to declare 2020 as Golf Tourism Year. But it hit a blank wall during the pandemic.

However, more than 30 golf clubs in the country have revived efforts to launch the proposed initiative by the first half of 2023.

The Golf Managers League of the Philippines (GMLP), headed by Rodel Mangulabnan, is giving its full commitment and has already reached out to the other golf and country clubs on how to help promote golf tourism.
