Jungolf to finally have a new board, elections set for Saturday

After being shelved several times, the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines will elect its new board members on Saturday, September 24, at the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

There are a total of 16 candidates, eight each from the two parties—Team OGAN of Oliver Gan and Team PLAY of incumbent president Nikki Ng—who are vying for 14 slots.

The 15th member of the board is chairman emeritus Gerry Handog.

Aside from Gan, Team OGAN ‘s other candidates are Mariel Dizon Macasaet, broadcaster Ely Saludar, AJ Adiviso, Aurelio Gomez, Lue Reine de Guzman, and Baltaire Balangauan.

In the ticket of Team PLAY are Ng, Mandaluyong City vice mayor Menchie Abalos, Victor Aliwalas, Stephanie Chua, Charlie Go, Rupert Paul Manhit, Mark Rosca and Marc Young.

“We aim to develop outstanding, well-rounded golfers by building camaraderie, goodwill and sportsmanship among junior golfers. We will build long-term development plans and embed programs to cultivate skill and ability to be able to compete successfully,” Gan said.

For his part, Ng said “Team PLAY will continue to increase the number of tournaments while expanding our reach through a development league, seeking out partnerships in the provinces and by having an interactive website that would cater especially to junior golfers nationwide.”
