Presidential sister Irene Marcos and her bilyonaryo husband, Gregorio Maria “Greggy” Araneta III flew to the United Kingdom to represent the Philippines in the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
Malacañang announced that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. picked his sister to be his “special representative” to the event, which has drawn world leaders and other foreign dignitaries.
“Mrs. Marcos-Araneta and her spouse will be attending the events for the state funeral beginning with the lying-in-state of the Queen taking place [Sunday],” Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said in a statement.
Irene, who has been mostly out of the public eye, is a known patron of the arts while her husband is the chairman and CEO of Araneta Properties. He also sits on the board of Ongpin’s PhilWeb Corp.
Marcos flew to New York on Sunday, September 18 to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York, coinciding with the ceremony in London.
