Bilyonaryo Robina Gokongwei-Pe is knocking on the hearts of deep-pocketed alumni to raise funds for athletes of the University of the Philippines.
Her foundation, Nowhere to go but UP, is selling early bird tickets at a hefty price to avid fans of the UP Men’s Basketball team ahead of the opening of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 85 in October.
Interested buyers will be assured of 2 lower box tickets for all games of the men’s basketball team in the UAAP season for P75,000. The price goes up to P100,000 a pair for patron tickets.
“Through your participation in the Season Pass Program, you are helping us share to the rest of the UP Fighting Maroons the success of the UP MBT. Proceeds of the sale of the Season Pass Program will be distributed to all other teams,” the foundation stated.
Tickets are transferable and seat assignments change per game. The season pass is good until the Finals — that is, if the boys exert another valiant effort to defend the championship.
Tickets at regular price will be sold at ticket outlets or by the College of Human Kinetics.
Still, many found the ticket prices absurd, especially since UP is a state university.
“Let’s say 18 games max na patron. Almost P5,600/pair per game? Talo pa scalper,” one commenter said.
Another came to defend Gokongwei’s team: “If you can’t afford the tickets, then don’t say anything. They’re not forcing you to buy them anyway.”
