Rest and shop! DOT eyes kiosks with clean toilets, pasalubong centers

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco is out to redeem herself from her flop “BBM Guest” travel rewards program.

The Cabinet official revealed Monday evening the design of her “Tourist Service Center and Rest Area,” which she plans to build near key travel hotspots in the country.

“Coming soon! In fulfillment of President Bongbong Marcos’ commitment to improve the overall tourist experience, this year we are breaking ground on 10 Tourist Rest Areas all over the Philippines!,” she teased.

The modern structures are designed to provide clean restrooms and a place to hang out in for travelers in between their trips to key destinations.

It is designed to be a one-stop shop as well for pasalubong by featuring local products for sale.

“The Tourist Rest Areas will also adopt the use of local materials and design elements that herald the Filipino brand,” Frasco added, calling it a joint project with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority.
