NLEX Corp. aims to complete the three kilometer Sta. Mesa segment of an expressway that will connect the south and north of Manila by the second quarter of next year.
“We are rushing the completion of NLEX Connector Road Section 2, hopefully by second quarter of next year,” said J. Luigi L. Bautista, president and general manager of NLEX.
The Department of Public Works and Highways turned over 85 percent of the right-of-way for the Sta. Mesa section, which is part of the entire eight-kilometer NLEX Connector that will run from Caloocan Interchange on C3 road to the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Sta. Mesa in Manila.
The Sta. Mesa section, which can accommodate up to 35,000 motorists per day, will build a total of 72 piers to support the elevated, four-lane expressway above the Philippine National Railways line.
It will co-exist with the Department of Transportation’s North-South railway project and will have two interchanges at España and R. Magsaysay.
The first five-kilometer section of NLEX Connector is now 80 percent complete and is seen to cut
travel time from NLEx to SLEx to about 20 minutes.
