‘Susugal ang SM dyan!’ Hans Sy pushed Imee Marcos to show ‘Maid In Malacanang’ in cinemas and not just on streaming – Darryl Yap

It was ultra bilyonaryo Hans Sy who cajoled Senator Imee Marcos into screening “Maid In Malacanang” instead of just showing it on pay-per-view streaming.

This was revealed by the film’s director and writer , Darryl Yap, who thanked Sy for betting on his work to draw in the COVID-spooked Filipinos back to cinemas.

“It was SM who actually convinced Boss Vic (del Rosario of VivaMAX) and Senator Imee na, ‘Isinehan n’yo na ‘yan, susugal ang SM d’yan,” said Yap in an interview with Elyson Edouard “GHOST Wrecker” Caranza.

Sy is president of SM Prime Holdings which runs the biggest chain of theaters in the country. Del Rosario produced the movie while Marcos aggressively endorsed the film which has been widely slammed as historical revisionism.

“Before we decided to put it in theaters, this was actually planned to be in Viva Max lang…If you will see, yung ibang crew ng SM may damit ng ‘Maid in Malacanang’ ‘yan,” said Yap.

“It’s from sir Hans Sy ng SM because inawitan nila etong pelikulang ‘to para buksan para finally mahikayat itong mga taong ito para bumalik na mga sinehan,” he added.

The movie grossed P21 million on opening day on August 3 in over 300 cinemas nationwide.
