President Bongbong Marcos is seriously considering to pluck another top executive from Aboitiz Power (AP), chaired by his bilyonaryo BFF Sabin Aboitiz, to fill a key post in his energy cluster.
A Babbler said AP first vice president for regulatory affairs Dennis Edward de la Serna has been endorsed as the next President of the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM).
De la Serna, who has been with AP since 2010, used to be manager of PSALM’s Universal Levy Tariff and Financial Valuation Department.
He has a Management Economics degree from Ateneo de Manila University and an MVA from Fordham University.
If appointed to PSALM, de la Serna would be the third AP executive to be named to a plum energy post under Marcos.
This would be on top of Marcos tapping Sabin as head of the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC).
Last month, Marcos chose Raphael Perpetuo “Popo” M. Lotilla, who served as independent director AP and Aboitiz Equity Ventures, as Secretary of the Department of Energy, his second term of duty in the post.
On August 4, Marcos picked AP chief legal counsel Monalisa Carneo Dimalanta as the new head of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
Dimalanta, a senior partner of PJS (Puyat Jacinto & Santos) law firm , chaired the National Renewable Energy Board (NREB) from 2019 to 2021 before she joined AP.
Babbler pointed out that even Lotilla’s chief of staff, Ronald Conquilla, is a former SN Aboitiz executive.
If AP scores a grand slam of sort in the government’s energy portfolio, Sabin might have another reason to pop the bottle with Marcos after the BFFs whooped it up during an impromptu victory party three months ago.
