Tessie Sy picks retired SC Justice Perlas-Bernabe as new BDO director

Ultra bilyonaryo Tessie Sy has chosen another woman to sit on the board of BDO Unibank.

Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Estela M. Perlas-Bernabe has been appointed independent director of BDO in place of Christopher Bell-Knight who would stay on as adviser until 2024.

She has been named as a member of BDO’s corporate governance and trust committees and as an advisor of the board audit committee.

BDO director Christopher Bell-Knight leaves board after 17 years

The 70-year old Bernabe will be the third woman on the 11-member BDO board after Sy and BDO Private Bank president Josefina Tan.

Perlas-Bernabe, who has served more than 40 years in the judiciary, was appointed to the High Court by the late President Noy Aquino in 2011. She retired three months ago.

She graduated magna cum laude, from St. Paul College of Manila and class salutatorian from the Ateneo de Manila University College of Law.
