IKEA Philippines urged customers who bought the Metallisk espresso maker from its store to return the product to receive a refund.
The Swedish furniture maker found one of the parts of the product defective and could cause explosions and accidents.
IKEA Philippines wrote to DTI director Melquiades Marcus N. Valdez last June 8 and also issued an advisory on its website and social media account.
Its headquarters in Sweden reported that it received a growing number of complaints about the product regarding several incidents of bursting espresso makers due to the faulty stainless steel safety valve.
Thirteen incidents have so far been reported from different countries. Luckily, no reports have been made yet in the Philippines.
