Helen Yuchengco-Dee taps physicist who drew up Philippines AI roadmap as new RCBC director

Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. chaired by bilyonaryo Helen Yuchengco-Dee is getting one of the country’s leading physicists on its board.

Erika Fille T. Legara has been elected as RCBC independent director starting July 25.

She replaced former Insurance Commissioner Adelita Vergel de Dios who resigned on July 16 due to personal reasons.

Legara will be a member of the committees on audit and compliance, corporate governance and related party transactions.

Legara co-authored the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Roadmap of the Philippines which was part of her role as policy advisor of the Department of Trade and Industry-Competitiveness and Innovation Group.

She also designed the curriculum for the first formal data science graduate program in the Philippines, Asian Institute of Management’s Master of Science Sc in Data Science, one of the top 3 analytics programs in Asia by Eduniversal.

She was a senior scientist in AIM’s analytics, computing, and complex systems lab and a research scientist in Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology, and Research (A*STAR).

She got college, Masters and PhD degrees in Physics from the University of the Philippines.
