The big boss of the country’s largest media company was one of the dozens of VIPs invited by Vice President-elect Sara Duterte to her oath taking yesterday, June 19.
GMA Network chairman-CEO and bilyonaryo Felipe L. Gozon flashed a million dollar smile along with his daughter, abogado Annette Gozon-Valdes, and actress Sanya Lopez in a photo posted on social media.
“Privileged to be invited at VP Sara Duterte’s oath taking ceremony,” wrote Lopez, who also performed during the Davao City event, on Instagram.
In a statement sent to Bilyonaryo.com, Gozon said : “We were invited to the inauguration so we attended.”
According to a Babbler, GMA’ s stance is that ” the media should be part of nation building to rally behind elected officials as long as they are doing their mandate.”
“But media should also be watchguards and police our elected officials and call them out when they go beyond their mandate. Media will still police. Walang kinikilingan, walang pinoprotektahan kapag mapapasama ang bansa natin,” the Babbler said.
GMA became the biggest media company two years ago after its long-time rival, ABS-CBN Broadcasting, went off the air with the expiration of its franchise. Congress, upon the prodding of President Rodrigo Duterte, rejected ABS-CBN’s application for a franchise renewal.
GMA’s profit has zoomed 190 percent to P7.53 billion in 2021 from P2.618 billion in 2019 with a virtual monopoly of viewership and ad revenues.
