‘Di pa naman malala! Joey Concepcion rejects return to Alert Level 2 amid uptick in COVID-19 cases

Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion said there’s no basis to bring Metro Manila back to the stricter Alert Level 2 just because COVID-19 infections are on the rise.
“If our Covid cases are not ending up in hospitals, then there is no need for higher alert levels,” the GoNegosyo founder said in a statement on Tuesday (June 14).
“The basis should always be the healthcare utilization rates,” he added.
Concepcion said to tighten movement restrictions and business operations would hinder economic recovery, which has only really picked up this year.
“The medical experts themselves are saying that it is still possible to be infected with Covid even after you’ve been vaccinated and even with acquired immunity. What the vaccine prevents is severe illness and death, and that should be the metric by which we decide whether or not to raise alert levels,” Concepcion added.
There are moves to further ease restrictions, with the Province of Cebu now making face masks optional for open air locations.
Concepcion said there should be a change in mindset, with people not resorting to panic when COVID-19 cases go up.
“This is not the way we are going to learn to live with COVID,” he said.
