Senior citizens are entitled to a 20-percent discount for select products even if they’re bought from online shops.
The Department of Trade and Industry issued joint memorandum circular 01, series of 2022, saying discounts granted to senior citizen and PWD ID holders for in-person transactions must also be honored by e-commerce channels, whether they order online or by phone.
Both senior citizens and PWD ID holders are entitled to avail of a 20 percent discount, with 12 percent VAT exemption on the purchase of specific goods and services as provided by law, along with an additional five percent special discount for basic necessities and prime commodities.
“Online shopping platforms need to reprogram their offering to incorporate a feature that allows discounts for persons with disabilities and senior citizens,” DTI Secretary Mon Lopez said, such as to allow a way for the store to accept ID submissions so the discount may be applied.
