“All that Pagcor did was to follow the law and court processes,” the gaming monopoly and regulator said.
Pagcor issued the statement after Universal Entertainment, whose officials were bodily removed from Okada Manila’s board, accused Pagcor of siding with the group of Japanese billionaire Kazuo Okada and bilyonaryo Tonyboy Cojuangco who took over the casino’s facilities on May 31.

Pagcor’s chief legal counsel, Abogado Roderick R. Consolacion, had informed both warring parties that while the SC was still sorting out the matter, the regulator has no choice but to abide by the status quo ante order (SQAO) until it was lifted or revised by the court.
On the pretext of the SQAO, Kazuo reinstalled himself as chairman after being ousted five years ago for mismanagement while his ally Cojuangco took over as president.

Universal Entertainment claimed the Kazuo-Tonyboy group twisted the SQAO by placing new faces on Okada Manila board even though they were not part of the board before Kazuo’s ejection in 2017.
