Finish the job: Aboitizes grant UBP president-CEO Edwin Bautista 3 more years to integrate Citibank’s retail business

Union Bank of the Philippines president and CEO Edwin Bautista is staying on top of the Aboitiz-controlled bank for another three years.
In a disclosure, the UBP board chaired by bilyonaryo Erramon Isidro M. Aboitiz approved on May 27 to extend the services of Bautista until 31 December 2025.
The term extension of the De La Salle University Mechanical Engineering graduate has come at a watershed period for UBP which trumped bigger Philippine banks in the bidding for Citibank’s Philippine consumer business last year.
Bautista was first appointed president and COO in January 2016. He became CEO the following year in place of Justo Abotiz Ortiz who led UBP from 1993 to 2017.
He joined UBP as SVP from 1997 to 2001 and went on to become executive vice president from 2001 to 2011 and senior EVP
from 2011 to 2015. Bautista also acted as president of the International Exchange Bank in 2006 until its merger with UBP the same
year.
Bautista previously had stints in Citibank, American Express and Procter and Gamble.
