Just waiting for Palace papers: Pagcor to halt e-sabong operations

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) has announced the shutdown of online cockfighting operations starting Wednesday (May 4), in compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s marching orders.
“Pagcor has to implement the President’s decision to stop e-sabong operations immediately,” Pagcor Chairman and CEO Andrea Domingo said in a statement.
Duterte adopted the recommendation of the Department of the Interior and Local Government to stop online cockfighting and betting, counting the many social ills they cause.

Domingo said PAGCOR is simply waiting for a formal memorandum from Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to formalize the shutdown of e-sabong operations.
“We will serve the appropriate notice to the Pagcor regulated e-sabong operators,” she said. “We will also inform the COA Auditor officially that starting today, there will no longer be revenues collected from e-sabong operations.”
Duterte said the more than P600 million taxes collected from e-sabong firms was not worth the moral decay caused by gambling addiction.
