The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) expects vehicle sales to grow 17 percent this year as mobility restrictions ease.
Last year, CAMPI registered a 20 percent increase in sales, selling 268,488 units.
On the other hand, the group of vehicle importers saw a 14 percent hike in sales to 58,916 unit sales.
Meanwhile, CAMPI members’ vehicle sales still registered a decline in February. Sales were 7.3 percent lower at 24,304 units.
The decrease slowed down from an 11.2-percent drop in January.
On the other hand, industry sales improved by 17 percent after a 25.4 percent month-on-month decline at the start of the year.
Gutierrez attributed the recovery of the market to the declining Covid-19 cases in February following the surge in January due to the Omicron variant.
Passenger car sales went up 2.25 percent to 5,914 units.
Two-month sales of the industry declined by 9.2 percent to 45,069 units. Sales of both passenger car and commercial vehicle segments dropped by 23 percent and 3 percent, respectively. (PNA)
