Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Benjamin Diokno said the regulator is set to wrap up its investigation into the hacking incident that affected hundreds of deposits of Sy-led BDO Unibank Inc. within the month.
“On the BDO cyber attacks, the BSP is targeting to complete the investigation by end- January this year,” Diokno said.
In addition to that, Diokno said the regulator continues its cyber threat surveillance with the latest reports indicating that cyber threat actors increasingly rely on social engineering to perpetrate the fraudulent activities.
“The BSP continues to aggressively coordinate with law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute scammers,” Diokno added.
Late last week, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed Bilyonaryo’s report that the suspects behind the hacking incident as well as the persons behind the Mark Nagoyo account had been arrested.
According to the NBI, five suspects, including two Nigerian nationals, were arrested in different operations.
Diokno said the BSP recognizes the role of cyber security in fostering digital innovation in the financial services industry and more importantly in maintaining financial stability.
“Similar to central banks in the region and globally, the BSP has been steadfastly working to institutionalize cyber resilience in the financial services industry,” Diokno said.
