For a job that pays minimum wage, bilyonaryo Lucio Co’s Puregold is requiring applicants for clerks and cashiers to be college graduates.
A netizen called out the grocery chain for the unrealistic qualifications it sets for potential employees, saying they don’t match the skills needed for the job vacancies.
In a now-viral Facebook post with over 50,000 shares, overseas Filipino worker Jhon Derosas blasted the unrealistic standards set by Puregold to hire cashiers, customer service representatives, and even receiving clerks for one of its branches. All must be female, be a college graduate, and have relevant working experience.
The standard is relaxed for sales assistants, with the job open to those who took up at least two years in college and should be computer literate.
“Puregold, paki-explain at sa halos lahat ng company jan sa pinas na napaka taas ng standard bago sila makapag-hire ng staff!!!” Derosas fumed.
Bakit kailangang 4 years grad? Mababayaran nyo ba sa pasahod nyo ang ginastos nila sa pag-aaral for 4 years?? Eh after 5 months or 6months naman, end of contract na,” he added.
Derosas said someone like him who failed to finish college could land the same job at Puregold overseas—with better pay.
“Napakadaming gustong magtrabaho sa sariling bansa ngunit dahil sa taas ng standard ng mga company diyan, hindi sila makapagtrabaho dahil hindi sila nakapagtapos ng pag-aaral!! HUSTISYA PINAS!!,” he said.
“Isa ako sa napakadaming OFW na nakikipagsapalaran dito sa ibang bansa dahil hindi din ako graduate ng college! Pero lahat ng naka-post jan sa tarpaulin na yan, lahat nagawa ko dito sa ibang bansa. Naging salesman at cashier ako sa isa sa napakalaking Hypermarket company dito sa Middle East and at the same time nag ko-customer service din ako’ lahat yan nagawa ko using ENGLISH COMMUNICATION PA kahit hindi ako graduate kasi we are taking undergo training naman kaya lahat matututunan!!,” Derosas added.
